About the NEPA Trauma Center

Saving Lives, Restoring Hope, Enhancing the Quality of Life

As the first Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation accredited Level II facility within a seven-county region in northeastern Pennsylvania, the NEPA Trauma Center serves a population of over 1.2 million people with full-time specially trained support professionals and double-board certified surgeons who maintain a state of 24-hour readiness, each and every day of the year.

Regional hospitals depend on the Trauma Center by diverting life-threatening injuries to the care and expertise of the Center’s professional staff.

Trauma personnel not only monitor all phases of patient care from pre-hospital transport through rehabilitation, but also spearhead educational efforts to foster awareness and prevention of traumatic injury throughout our region.

While no one expects to use trauma services, catastrophic healthcare events can happen to anyone at any time. In fact, trauma is the primary cause of death for Americans under the age of 44 and represents more lost years of life than cancer and heart disease combined. Statistics show that those fortunate enough to receive care at an accredited trauma center have a 30 percent greater chance of survival than those who do not receive such care.

As the Scranton area and all of northeastern Pennsylvania continues to grow and become an increasingly important destination for individuals and businesses, the NEPA Trauma Center will serve as a critical asset to our area and our people.
